JOURNAL CLUB! ᯓ★

The Grey Matters Journal Club is an inclusive space where students can explore neuroscience topics through presentations and discussions of scientific papers, regardless of their background knowledge.

  • It’s designed to foster curiosity and learning in a judgment-free environment, with no prior experience required.

  • Presenters break down complex concepts into digestible parts, encouraging discussion and engagement from all attendees.

  • Journal club is also an amazing way for general members not a part of production (or who want to write eventually) to participate and gain experience!

Getting Started!

How do I become a leader/presenter of journal club and what will my responsibilities be?

You can begin by filling out the application form to become a presenter [here]! We then have a step-by-step presenter guide document to offer assistance in terms of structure and getting you oriented which can be found in this [google doc].

How do I participate as a general discussion member?

To become a general discussion member, all you have to do is RSVP (form here) and read the literature assigned for that session! There are no other requirements, however, we have some optional resources here:

  • A guide on preparing for the discussion: [GUIDE]

  • A pre-meeting question form (you can drop any questions you have here): [FORM]

  • Any topics you want discussed in the future? Drop them here in our topic idea form!

How do I find the details for each Journal Club session?

We will have Journal Club meetings on Oct. 7th, Nov. 4th, and Dec. 2nd at 6-7 PM (always on a Monday in JMZ room 1122). Information about each meeting (i.e. topics to be discussed, paper we’re reading) can be found below!!
